About the Designer
I can’t remember when being creative and artistic was not something I identified with. I began painting and selling my artwork when I was in grade school and have developed a lifelong appreciation for art and design. I grew up in houses that were always under construction as my dad remodeled the kitchen in every house we lived in. Pouring over house plan and decorating magazines was something my mom and I did for fun. She taught me to sew and quilt too. Though I made many of my clothes when I was young, I found my interest in sewing home decor grew. So it is small wonder that my interests in art, home decoration and architecture lead me to seek a college degree and a career as an interior design professional.
In 1996 I graduated from the University of Oregon with a 5-year professional bachelor degree in Interior Architecture. While in college, I interned with an interior architecture firm and freelanced as an architectural illustrator and draftsperson. My work experience since then has included sales, consulting, interior design and project management and has taken me from Oregon to Texas… Though I’ve resided for the past 10 years here in the California Central Coast area. I’ve been an independent designer specializing in kitchens and baths since 1994. I have completed hundreds of residential kitchen and bath projects that vary in size from small remodels to large new custom homes as well as kitchen displays for four showrooms.
In the past couple of years I’ve ventured into the world of design blogging and have had the opportunity to meet many other designers and bloggers across the country through my foray into social networking. These connections have garnered me a couple of dream trips sponsored by manufacturers. One of these was Brizo Faucets that flew me to New York to attend Jason Wu’s runway show for Fall Fashion Week. The other was to the G E Monogram Experience Center in Louisville Kentucky for a week where I got to cook in their kitchen lab with nationally known chefs on their state-of-the-art appliances.
Through social networking activities and attending events like KBIS (the annual trade show for kitchen and bath pros sponsored by the National Kitchen and Bath Association) I am able to keep abreast of the newest products and technologies for the kitchen and bath. As a member of the NKBA, I’ve also been able to attend presentations and meetings on the local and regional level to see what’s going on close to home as well. Send me a Tweet or look up my FaceBook page on the links here and check out my blog.
Though I have been a kitchen designer in the traditional since, I have honed the drafting and illustrating aspect of the profession to a fine art. With a dozen year’s experience doing computer drafting and rendering, I find this is the particular area where I excel. As such, my attention to detail, experience, artistic creativity and technical proficiency are focused in an area of mastery that has allowed me to create a service that is unique within the kitchen and bath industry.
